This Bowmore has been in the bottle for almost twice as long as it has spent in wood. Distilled in 1992 and bottled after ten years of maturation in 2003 by Signatory – at drinking strength. That’s almost twenty years ago. I thank my brother in drams Manny for the sample.

On the nose, it is a textbook example of bourbon-aged Bowmore. Lemon, apples, hay, vanilla, moss and soft peat smoke. And you can smell the sea. Soft, maritime notes are slowly taking matters into their own hands.

The body is a bit on the light side, but good. The taste does not suffer. Nice maritime notes with brackish water, citrus fruit, seaweed, olive oil and even a chili pepper. The vanilla does its bit, the white fruit has more trouble poking through it. But very, very tasty.

The finish starts salty, then evolves into sweet, but goes back like a yo-yo to salt on the deathbed.

A classic Bowmore, that's always a pleasure.
