Caol Ila G&M Madeira Finish 1995 17YO

Creamy honey, vanilla and heather on the nose. Wafts of smoke and butterscotch underly this. Slight hint of green apples and cinammon.

Very smooth palate. I get spicy honey primarily. Smokiness not as evident as one would normally expect from Caol Ila. Vanilla cream and a note of soft fruits that I just cannot quite place. This is much more subtle, softer and gentler than the standard Caol Ila 12yo.

Ah, now we get the smokiness on the finish. Waves of it that I can taste breathing in and out. This then slowly fades to a very dry finish that lasts for some time - wonderful!

I've been critical of Gordon & Macphail in the past, particularly their Connoisseur's Choice range. But this is from their 'Private Collection' range and is much much better. One of the nicest offerings I've tried from them. Highly recommended.
