Another Lowland whisky I sampled last night. This one's a bit of a curiosity though as its a double distiller peated lowlander. So very different to the likes of Auchentoshan.
Nose
Campfire smoke on the palate and a little sweetness.
Palate
This whisky is all about the arrival. Smoke hits you straight away and then a little cereal and some sweetness and then like Keyser Soze it is gone.
It's not super smoky either (I'd say it was about Caol Ila level of peat). It's just that there is not a lot else going on with it so that's all you notice.
Finish
There isn't much of a finish. A bit of lingering smoke and a slight salty note. That's it.
So what's to say? Its NCF and natural colour from what I can tell. And it's bottled at a decent abv so kudos for the producers there. But it's just too young. It could do with another 5 years or so in the cask. Then it might be really interesting.
I can't see them selling much of it either. It's more expensive in the UK than the likes of Ardbeg 10, Laphroaig 10, Caol Ila 12 and Longrow peated. If you wanted a youngish peated scotch you'd get a better whisky for cheaper with those whiskies.
Was wanting to try this. Now not as much. Thanks for the review.
