I just cannot understand McTear's reaction in this case. Surely the bad press is causing more damage than the hammer price of these lots? They should be accountable for this, no?

@Appadurai Your comment is awaiting
I visit Mctears on a regular basis and I was worried when I heard about the story that seems to be spreading through the different social networks bad mouthing Mctears. Today I called Mctears and I heard their side of the story and I believe this to be nothing more than a very bad piece of bad mouthing from another so called auction house based in Glasgow so that they can try and compete with Mctears. ( they have even changed their whisky auction date to the same as McTears)
Here’s some facts: The person that picked up the bottles from McTears for Mr Timmerman was actually an employee of the so called auction house ” Mullberry Bank ” All the various bitching on facebook, twitter e.t.c has also came from employees of ” Mullberry Bank”
I could go on with various other things that have been put on the net but to be honest that would only bring me down to their level, and I would not stoop that low.
Being a businessman myself i believe in fair competition between your competitors but when you start to get into this kind of bitching then I think you really need to take a good look at yourself in the mirror.
My loyalties will still remain with McTears and I will not be stepping into Mullberry again, to be honest I wasn’t really that impressed anyhow…

The above comment has also been posted on the Dramming.com post that I heard about the auction issues from.
A duplicate comment from a Connosr user with one post to his name and a profile that mispells the word whisky. It also smells a bit like libel to me, if there's nothing to back up the allegation. You can find more discussion over on the Dramming page.

(For the record, I'm a happy McTear's customer who has bought a few lots from them which were as described, and all the staff with I've dealt with have been friendly and very helpful. I only want to find out what's going on with this current mini-saga so that I can use McTear's again without any worry)

I have worked for an auctioneers for over 10 years (not the one mentioned below) and though we do not auction whisky, I feel that they should have stated clearly that the bottles had been opened as this would affect the value. I hope you get it sorted out.
