Even though the prices of expressions from silent distilleries are hitting the ceiling I don't think anyone will ever miss a chance to sample a piece of whisky history. Banff is a distillery that has been silent for more than 30 years now and so its definitely a privilege to taste any expression from this one irrespective of the experience that follows.
Nose: A lot of wild flowers ... which I suppose was very representative of the area where this whisky was matured .. Definitely some undertones of citrus .. good amounts of dark chocolate.. a more pronounced Lavender fragrance that comes through and finally some nuts possibly almonds.
Palate: While the nose get its sweetness coming from a lot more floral notes.. the palate has more of tropical fruits.. mangoes, bananas and oranges too. Its a really nice juicy even possibly a bit oily kind of a palate. You can also find some more chocolate with some mild spices too on this one.
Finish: Once again the finish has a good amount of fruity tones comes through along with some mild minty notes with some limestone/chalk dust lingering on in the end.
Its really sad to know that soon we won't have any more of spirit left from this really good distillery.
