Bell’s Original is nowadays a very popular and cheap blend. A bottle will set you back around 20 EUR. A long time ago (not in a galaxy far, far away, mind you) the Extra Special was their flagship release. During a spring clean I came across a miniature from 1983 in the shape of a bell (just like their Porcelain decanters).
The nose is very docile on honey and heather. Sweeter than I would have liked on butterscotch, crystal sugar and some toffee apples.
I’m pleasantly surprised with the body of this little dram. So full of flavor after 35 years in this little bottle. Honeysweet though, on honey and sugars. Even a bit syrupy. Baked apples, mostly. A mild spiciness that turns towards vanilla.
The finish is short, sweet and mildly spicy.
Very docile, but quaffable blend. Ideal for a cocktail, I suppose.
