'Isn't Joeri starting to exaggerate a bit now?', was my first thought when I read that he was going to bring another Ben Nevis to the market. After all, it's already his 6th if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, he probably loves Ben Nevis as much as I love Auchentoshan. And admittedly, so far they have all been excellent, so you won't hear me complain. This time a 25-year-old from 1996. The cask was bottled in honour of former RAF pilot Idris McLellan, who also owned it. The releases of The Whisky Jury have become so popular that they are sold via ballot. I had no luck, but I was able to get a sample from a good soul (you know who you are).
OMG... it's again a beauty! Super fruity and tropical on kumquats, passion fruit, mango, banana fritters, honey and something from lemongrass and sugared orange peels. But all that in double portions, really. A touch of silver polish, which gives it a nice waxiness. Excellent, again.
An absolute taste bomb. Tropicana, baby! Passion fruit and mango, all kinds of stone fruits and citrus fruit, pineapple and banana. And thanks to a soft bitterness of the wood, a perfect balance is created here. And that waxiness really gives it a wonderful mouthfeel.
The finish is more of the same: wax, mint, tropical fruit and a soft spiciness that reverberates for a long time.
Joeri, you're starting to get predictable, dude. But as long as it stays so good, you can remain predictable as far as I'm concerned.
