This bourbon goes downhill. You start off pretty nicely with the nose: sweet corn, raw oak, and some background apricots and flint/rock. It's nice: I like the nose. The palate is just OK: very hot, either from some young bourbon blended in, or too old bourbon, or both. Kindof like chloriseptic spray (which, incedentally, reminds me of some Old Forester Birthday bourbon I had and did not like... any Brown Forman bourbon in here?). Plenty of corniness still, but any sweetness is totally dominated by the hotness and the astringent oak. Then, on the finish, it gets even worse in a "bitter face" inducing way. It's just chloraseptic and astringent oak on the finish. In fact, very much like the Old Forester B-day Bourbon (2011) that I didn't like.
To put this in context, I have an Elijah Craig 12 in the cabinet now that I enjoy and much prefer over this, and I think EC12 is on the side of too hot and astringent. BMH goes way beyond that. However, I've yet to taste a Brown Forman bourbon that I like (I do like Jack Daniels, but that's a different distillery), and BMH reminds me of those.
