Blair Athol, near Pitlochry, is the home base of the famous blend Bell’s. It is only released as single malt in limited quantities by owner Diageo. But independent bottler clearly love it. This is a single cask of 16 years from the stables of the (fairly new) Hunter Laing in their Old Malt Cask series.
Wonderfully fruity nose on all kinds of berries, candied orange peel and light brown sugar. Baked apples. Gooseberries. Beeswax. Marzipan. There is a lot going on here.
Wonderfully waxy on the palate. Sweet and sour now, on apples, pink grapefruit, pomelo on a very spicy mattress. Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, liquorice. Rhubarb? The wood takes care of a nice balance in this succulent, sweet whisky.
The finish is long, spicy and sweet.
Delicious Blair Athol, again. Around 100 EUR and worth every cent.
