This 12 Year Old Braeval, matured on a sherry cask (while it is very, very pale) was bottled especially for the Royal Airforce Benevolent Fund. The proceeds went to this organization that is concerned with the welfare of current and former members of the RAF. A nice idea.

The nose is very soft and sweet. Caramel, pineapple skin, a touch beeswax and some toffee. A small floral hint as well. Alas not much else, making this nose somewhat undefined.

It is nicely oily on the palate and immediately pretty spicy. Ginger, nutmeg and a smidge of cinnamon. A big peppery bit, though. The fruit remains of the yellow variety (sultanas amongst others) with a bit of melon in the mix. But again not enough character to jump out at you.

The finish is long and offers a boost of citrus, that I had not detected before.

Well, a rather middle-of-the-road Braeval, that did not convince me. Thanks to Anverness for the generous sample.
