I had this Brora before at the Whisky Festival in Ghent, Belgium, last February. I remember it being pretty good, which is why I got me another sample on the spot. I didn’t make any notes at the time, something I will rectify today.
The nose is rather closed and needs a few minutes to show a sweet and white fruity character. Primarily pear, upholstered by vanilla, honey and some wax. Peat is more or less absent. You really have to look for it.
It rolls over the taste buds in a creamy fashion, but again is rather timid. Nicely spiced – pepper and ginger – and quite a bit of fruity, which is pushed away mid-palate by quite a bit of sea salt.
The finish is medium long and very salty. I need a glass of water after this (or would that be the weather?).
A nice and affordable Brora at a great age. You can still can this for approx. 150 EUR.
