@Ridley I have the 01.1 and the 2.2 Orpheus. Both are superb peat monsters. They're like Lagavulin on steroids. The nose is surprisingly sweet with intense smoke. The palate is smoke on smoke on peat. And the finish is smoke that lingers like dousing a campfire with water.

Like @whiskyshiba, I've tried the 1.1 and the 2.2 Orpheus. I find the latter to be wonderful even without water, and quite manageable even at its high peating levels (which are somewhat overstated). The wine finish is really amazing.

@Ridley Not sure which Octomore II you're getting. The 02.1 was 140 ppm at 62.5%, and the 02.2 was 61%. Even the latest Octomore 03.1 is only 152 ppm and claims to be the peatiest yet.
I loved the 02.2 Orpheus with its sherry. Then I tried 02.1 -- strictly bourbon cask matured. Ah, heaven.

@two-bit-cowboy - This one is a "futures" release called "The Beast" - I purchased a case a while back in bond until it was ready to be bottled. I assume the 167ppm is correct as this is on the release notification they have just sent me.
I hope when tasting, I too feel like I'm in heaven as they also thank me for my trust in them for purchasing - I'll let you know !

@Ridley Ah, ha. I'll look forward to reading what you have to say about it.

The Octomore Orpheus is definitely one of the best Peat Malts ever. The combination of burned rubber, coal and peat with the sweetness of the wine casks is phantastic.

@Ridley I'd love to hear your thoughts. There is a bottle sitting in the store up the road I've been considering, but having gone a little scotch crazy as of late... It does sound intriguing though....

Just been advised that my case of Octomore II is being delivered to me in May 2011.
Bottled at a cask strength of 60.5% with 167ppm, this is going to take some drinking. I'm not one ofr adding water, but this may need a drop!
Any of you guys tried previous Octomores? How did you find them?
