- Brand: Campbeltown
- ABV: 54.9%
Recently, The Barrel Baron – Dutch independent bottler Marcel Kip – bottled two sister casks from Campbeltown, Cask 88 and Cask 88A. The spirit was distilled in 2014 at an unnamed Campbeltown distillery and re-racked into an oloroso cask for a finish in 2019. But before that happened, the malt was first transformed into a blended malt by the principle of teaspooning, as you can also deduce from the label. We end with Cask 88A at 54.9% ABV.
The nose is nice and funky and fruity. Red fruit, Dracula teeth (sweets), freshly ground coffee, caraway and rye bread. Another hint of sea air.
Oily, mouth-filling, sweet and very spicy. Candy syrup, honey, figs, apricots, cloves and a lot of woodsmoke. And now also salt and pepper, a drop of brackish water and olives. Nice and complex and warm.
It offers a long, warm, spicy finish that makes me reach for a glass of water.
A bit more spicy than his brother, but also very, very good.
