I was handed this cask sample by an independent bottler, who felt it was not good enough to be bottled under his label. Did I feel the same? Well, I am more than willing to give it a try.
The nose is fruity, but very light and rather alcoholic. I would have expected a lot more fruit from Caper. On the nose alone, I would have to agree with the bottler (who will remain anonymous). Sweet malt and pineapple are the only things I experience. And loads of yoghurt.
Peppery at the attack (I have no idea about the ABV), with a pretty firm body. But immediately and unrelentingly bitter. Close to the grain, as they say. A little bit zesty and minty.
The finish is medium long on apples and pineapples.
The nose and the bitterness on the palate make it clear that this is not a grand Caper. A wise decision not to bottle this, I would say.
