Slowly but surely, Caperdonich's cask are really starting to run out... This Speysider, built in 1897 as Glen Grant II, was closed in 2002 to finally being demolished in 2010.
Surprisingly fresh and honestly young smelling Caperdonich. Malt sugars, green grapes and soft pears, a touch of mint and something of melon. But also something of chamomile tea and avocado. In all honesty, it reminds me of grappa rather than malt whisky. Hmm...
On the palate it is also a lightweight. Light body. Again, very fresh on apples and pears, green grapes and dextrose. Lemongrass. Dried apricots. A pinch of white pepper and licorice try to give it some weight, but still have the greatest difficulty with that.
The finish is medium long and reminds of Sirop de Liège.
A bright, tasty Caper, but little to no complexity and seems much younger than it is. I'm not devastated. Thanks anyway, Manou!
