This is a review of a new product found at my local liquor shop. The Bourbon as mentioned is Chestnut Farms. From information on the bottle it is made by Clear Springs Distillery. A quick google search however, says it's a Sazerac company product. To the Bourbon.

Nose: Corn, leather, cashews, sunflower seeds, a hint here and there of caramel. Baking spice and all spice. Lastly, once left to open up for a good 30min some butter, oak, and vanilla.

Taste: Spicy, in fact, the spice is what dominates the palate throughout. Sappy. Oaky. Leathery. Oily. Thick. No sweetness at all. Very clean taste. But I find there is no enjoyable taste profile to this Bourbon. Most Bourbon has a flavor profile that involves some sweetness. This has none. What they have managed to do here is create a bourbon that is bland. Nothing sweet, nothing distinctive to distinguish this product. It's as if it was bottled straight from distillation. I taste none of the charred barrel influence or any Barrel influence for that matter. Odd.

Finish: Very very smooth. As if this is watered down whisky. Very oily finish. Leather, corn oil, more oak. It lasts but it's just not enjoyable or memorable.

If you like your Bourbon smooth, if you like the flavors of oak, leather, and spice, drink this. I'd gladly serve this to people who don't like Bourbon or someone who likes to drown their Whiskey in ice. Why? Because this doesn't have much flavor to start with and it's smooth. Perfect for those two groups. Water this down and it will taste like nothing I'm sure.

The main problem with this product is that it has nothing going for it. The flavor profile isn't distinctive. There are IMO, better Bourbons out there than this that are richer, and have an established flavor profile that people love and enjoy. This has no sweetness to it and in my experience, that's a must for a Bourbon. Top all this off with a $40 price tag and it's not hard to see why this produce rates so low with me. Seriously, I hope someone who makes this Bourbon reads this and takes actions because I don't know what the hell you are thinking trying to sell this $#!^ for that price.

I like the honesty of this review. The title made me chuckle. A "corn" nose, especially when its the most powerful aspect of a scent, is not usually a good thing. Corn indeed. Some of the other metaphors sound kind of nice though. Sunflower seeds? Weird but intriguing. I have a Sazerac bourbon in my cupboard gathering dust. They are not all good ones, but some certainly are. Mine is a cheap version, but then again I have a Pappy Van Winkle 20 locked away in my safe, so all is not lost. . . .
