Clynelish is applauded by many connoisseurs, even though the classic 14 Year Old is just an ordinary malt (in my humble opinion). If you want a special Clynelish, it is best to seek out an independent bottler, like The Whiskyman, Single Malts of Scotland or the Creative Whisky Company.
The nose is very sharp. Pepper, apples, citrus, a touch of wax. Flints. Not bad, but I am not yet impressed.
On the palate, it is very spicy (pepper and ginger). Apples again, with citrus, soon followed by a salty twouch. Kind of crass and unpolished. Reminds me a bit of grappa.
The medium long finish is sweet, but very sharp.
This Clynelish has a lot in common with the 12 Year Old from David Stirk that I tasted last summer. Around 65 EUR.
