A review of Hart Bros Clynelish 1998, bottled in 2013.
Round two for Clynelish.
Nose: lemon syrup, lemon liqueur, anise, citrus, and bread.
Palate: dry, syrupy, and slightly sweet. Wood spice, a grassy note, and the telltale waxiness. But no lemon! (wait, there is a hint of unidentified citrus hiding in the spice).
Finish: drying and long, with a residual sweetness and watery citrus.
Overall, this dram was much better than the first. Far more character and complexity even if the nose led me astray. Like the last bottling, and following two, I found that Clynelish needed several months to "open". Initial tasting was universally disappointing but improve greatly over time (generally within about 3 months).
