A bad cork on a bottle of wine can contaminate the wine. Do the corks on whisky ever do this?

I'm sure it can. All I know is that screw cap whisky bottles are upsetting...

I've not seen it personally but I've spoken with those who claim to have. Our government liquor monopoly apparantly believes it exists and conciders it to be grounds for returning a bottle. It has also been discussed in the USENET group a couple of times.

So a bit of hearsay evidence anyway..
