This is probably the hardest from the Archives range for me, since it is the First Dailuaine I will write a tasting note for. The only other Dailuaine I tasted was the cask strength Gordon & Macphail shop exclusive I tasted when visiting Elgin in September 2010. I did not make any notes at that time. So this is my first real encounter with Dailuaine.
The soft nose is rife with grasses and hay, Gyproc (carton and chalk), heather, vanilla, polishing wax, white bread, yellow apples and a slice of lime. Dried flowers. Leave it for five minutes and you will get some coffee, caramel and strawberries. It get sweeter as time passes. For some reason, it reminds me of tiramisu.
It is creamy, almost buttery, on the palate and rather spicy on allspice. The fruit turns a tad bitter, like mandarin and grapefruit. Heather, again. Grassy. Vanilla custard. Nicely warming. I must say, this is all rather pleasant.
The finish, that remains floral and spicy, lasts quite a bit.
This whisky will not make me a fan of this lesser known distillery, but I can say that this is good whisky, provided you give it enough time. Around 85 EUR.
