I generally work from lower proof to higher proof. In this case I would drink the 12 first and then the 16 simply because the oak is going to be more prevalent in the 16. Tasting the 12 first will definitely help you appreciate the 16 more.

@kywildfan - That makes sense. It's simple, and I must have simple, to order by proof. Thanks for the information. It's going to help. Have a better than good day.

@jwise - I bought a bottle of Aberlour 12yo. I'll do the taste compare, to the 16yo, tomorrow. Heck, all I had to do to get compare of the two products was to go to Aberlour's website, "www.aberlour.com". Then, read the distillery's descriptive review on both 12y0 & 16yo. But that's not near as fun as doing the actual tastings.

The 12 is a bit thinner. I think they are both quite good but the 16 has a Creamier mouthfeel and the sherry is more subtle. You'll enjoy the experience!

@kywildcatfan - I bought a bottle today.. And naturally, I had to have a pre-taste-comparison taste. I'm still working through the description of my taste. Iknow it may sound weird, one thing I kept tasting on the finish is coconut macaroons. Ok, tell me that's not an official taste for single malt scotch whiskies. Anyway it was lighter but at the same time full bodied, as it seemed to me. I'll get to the 12 & 16 both tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

@WPT - I can't wait to see the results! While I may appreciate the "official tasting notes" offered by distilleries, I like to see what CONSUMERS think about the whiskies (not those who are trying to sell their whisky!)

@jwise - Glad to hear from a @jwise . I realized I had to give this little exercise some more thought. Somehow I feel this crazy sense of responsibility to the folks who created these two products before I start this little exercise. Sounds and weird to me. I think I'm thinking too much about this exercise. But you know I've done this type of comparison and especially the products I like a bunch.
I agree with you. It carries more weight when it is done by someone not trying to make a sale, I'm also thinking it should be someone that has done this before with more experience and years drinking these products. Don't get me wrong I'm doing this taste test comparison. Just having reservations and did I open my mouth foolishly.

@WPT - You know, my favorite kind of tastings are with those who don't know the history/popularity behind each brand, or the price for each bottle. Over Christmas, I had the opportunity to give my sister-in-law a little tasting. You can read about it here: whisky.com/forum/showpost.php/…

Um, I kinda went overboard today. I seemed to have come across a few Aberlour expressions, and hosted a bit of an informal taste test at my local cigar shop. Here's the story: whiskywhiskywhisky.com/forum/viewtopic.php/…

@jwise - Hello Jwise. My review isn't good but it's mine just like every other ameteur reviewer with their opinion. Neither whiskey, 12yo & 16yo double cask, is as good as the reviews on this blog make these out to be on these blogs. Any review, of the two afore mentioned products, is over blown & exaggerated, in my opinion. The best I can say about the 2 product versions I have is it will be going down the sink. The 2 products listed, including the heralded other top line product from same distillery are trash whiskey, also known as rot gut.
Another problem with this blog is the people who are socalled buddies. If you no longer want communicate via the connection of the buddy junk-system, be a man and let that person know if the junk buddy system lets you know when you are.
Ah! dios farewell my non-friend blogger. Enjoy that trash you're about to drink or drinking.

@WPT - I'm sorry for whatever has caused you to become so upset. If it was something I did, I am truly sorry. Have you been trying to send me messages? I haven't received any notices, and I sure haven't seen any reviews by you to comment on.
I have a hard time believing that you think these whiskies are "rot gut", as everyone I gave them to had high praise for them. Are you referring also to the A'Bunadh, or the 18yr?

The taste comparison will be done with the Aberlour 12yr old double cask and 16yr old double cask. My question is what whisky do I taste first? Does one affect the taste of the other greater? I'm looking for the order if there is one. I know one thing the tasting will be Grrrrrreat, life's good.
Thank you for time, help and advice.
