This whiskey came from a distillery and brew pub about 7 miles from my home. I was hoping that whiskey produced so close to me would be worth drinking. My first impression was not a good one. On the nose it was dry, musty and medicinal. It had no sweetness at all that I could perceive. Taste wise it had notes of leaf litter, wood ash and leather and had a bitter finish and after taste that lasts for months. I would not recommend this whiskey and will only offer it only to people for education and comparison purposes. At 32 bucks a bottle it is over priced. Its quality is that of a 12 dollar bottle and I won't buy it again.
I tasted this one again and it and my impression has improved a bit. There is a little sweetness coming through and it does have a distinct flavor. Much like the Islay whiskys this may be a love it or hate it flavor profile. It has grown on me a tad because it is vary different from my Bourbons, Scotch's and Canadian whisk(e)ys in my cabinet. My bottle doesn't quite match Michael Jackson's description so it may be an off one.
