Finlaggan Sherry Finish

This is my fifth expression of Finlaggan, an undisclosed malt from the Vintage Malt Whisky Company. It was finished on sherry casks after a regular maturation on bourbon casks. It is bottled at 46%. The nose starts surprisingly sweet on toffee apples, butterscotch and nougat, followed by smoked bacon and nuts. Let us not forget raisins. A bit smoky, but the sweetness dominates. The body could have done with a bit more, but the taste is fine. Dried apricots and raisins on a dry bed of maritime elements. Prickles a bit. Hint of espresso, nutmeg and black pepper. A salty lining that is to my liking. The contrary of the nose, in fact. Now the sweetness is overpowered by the spices and the smoke. Very long but ever so dry finish. This could very well be a Lagavulin. Very good stuff and only 45 EUR. Thanks, Pat!
