The series with the resounding name The Ultimate is Dutch, brought to market by the independent bottlers Van Wees. Bar a mistake on my part, they have so far bottled three Glen Keith, including this 16 Year Old that matured on a hogshead. It was distilled on 8 November 1995 and bottled in December 2011.
The nose is light, grainy and sweet, with a sour edge. Unbaked dark bread, sweet malt, white fruit and a hint of coconut. Rather light and not very outspoken.
On the palate it is again somewhat light. Some white fruit, but also something that reminds me of wet cardboard, which is a bit of a letdown. Nicely spicy, though. Midpalate it recovers a little and becomes a bit more fruity and sweet.
The finish is a plus. Sweet, spicy and fairly long.
A rather nondescript Glen Keith with a closed nose, that only shows its fruity character midpalate. You have to be patient.
