Glen Moray can be found on the edge of Elgin and is owned by the French company La Martiniquaise since 2008. We will be trying a single cask from the stocks of David Stirk’s Creative Whisky Company. He bottled the sherry cask in his Exclusive Range at 50% ABV. It is the youngest Glen Moray I have ever tried.
The nose is candy-like and floral. It reminds me of English liquorice, lavender and some leather. A bit of cumin and thyme give it a green tint, while rum-raisins offer some fruitiness.
The arrival is mouth coating and fairly piquant. Much more spices than the nose let on. Think nutmeg, black pepper and liquorice. Candied ginger too. Not a trace of the green herbs. The fruit is limited to some raisins and dried apricots. It becomes a tad bitter from the tannins.
That makes for a medium long finish that is fairly dry.
Pleasant young Glen Moray. Thanks, Wim.
