This 20 Year Old was bottled by the German indie Malts of Scotland. It is not their first Glen Scotia. They bottled a 1992 before, also from a sherry cask. I would not be surprised if they were similar. This one is very dark, like cough syrup.
On the nose, this is a sherry monster: loads of dark fruit like prunes, raisins, dades and figs. Very minty with a hint of cappuccino, whipped cream included. But also fresh blueberries and juicy cherries. Dark chocolate and a light touch of praline. Fresh tobaccao leaves. Comes in layers. Wonderful nose! Water makes it sweeter with hints of nuts.
On the palate, the associations of the nose return, wonderfully sweet, with the tobacco leaves that stand out. But soon it turns very dry. Pity. The juiciness evaporates for the most part. The oak puts its foot down, hard. A salt lining, which I quite like, makes up for a lot. It can use some water, which emphasizes the sweet, dark fruit.
The finish points out the salty edge, the oak turns your mouth dry as a desert, even diluted.
On the nose alone, I could easily give this an extra trhee points. A very nice Glen Scotia, in the end. Put him in your cabinet for the winter. Takes water very well.
