I have to be in the mood for a Speyside and let me tell you that's not often. I'm more a Islay or peaty island & highland man. But see this Glenburgie? I have always liked it above the other speysiders. And tonight I have just finished 2 glasses of the stuff accompanying a plate of Chicken Tikka Masala. It does for that what a Chardonny will do to for a Lobster Bisque, replacing the Cognac with the Glenburgie of course.
Glenburgie is a few miles west of Elgin along the road to Inverness. The distillery itself has been likened to a wee nature reserve because of it's huge pond and the wildlife that attracts. There is no visitor centre but the whisky can be bought at Gordon & MacPhail in Elgin.
The nose is light and spirity, sweet toffee, vanilla, shortbread
The Palate is fruity, light, with that toffee, vanilla stronger now, delicious toffe banoffee, now one almost expects coconut just to round off the dream like desert flavours, but it's not there.
The finish is a spicy warming, sadly short but memorable making this almost a gulpable whisky, you know the type, the type of whisky that's so easy drank, swallowed in gulps rather than sipped.
With Chicken Tikka Massala being a mildly spiced dish a well proportioned glass of Glenburgie is a suited alternative to your usual wine.
Find where to buy Glenburgie whisky
The missing coconut in Glenburgie is found in the Chiken Tikka Masala, making for a ticket to paradise and a gastronomical adventure
