I only just tasted the GlenDronach 15 Year Old Revival, that was bottled after the distillery came into the hands of Billy Walker and his team. This one is the predecessor of the Revival, an ‘old’ 15 Year Old, bottled in the mid-90s and, according to the label, ‘100% matured in sherry casks’.

This one starts off with a nose full of juicy, almost overripe prunes, sweet dades and raisins. But in the background, although not really sulphur, is something of mould, like wet and rotten wood and – don’t laugh – creamy cheese!

The attack on the palate is very weak and watery, which is a shame after such a special nose. Dades, again, with toffee and a touch of chocolate and nuts. Very mildly spiced with nutmeg.

The finish is medium in length on dades and chocolate.

I’m not sure about this one. While the nose is much better than the Revival, the first swig was a serious let down. It got better after that, but the finish is also rather mediocre. Both are thus a little similar in quality.
