Glenglassaugh got a new lease on life in 2009 after a silent period of almost 20 years (before that, it had even been closed for over 40 years). In 2013 Billy Walker (known from BenRiach and GlenDronach) added this Highlander to his portfolio. In the same year, this 30 Year Old was released, making sure Glenglassaugh made a nice re-entry. The color states clearly that sherry casks were involved.

It is a bit of a fruit bomb on the nose. Loads of mango, sultanas, yellow plums, upholstered with pipe tobacco, some almonds and something that reminds me of shoe polish. Candied orange peel. Hint of cold coffee in the back. Cigar box. Very round and creamy. Take your time for this one. It is well worth it.

Creamy on the palate. It immediately offers raisins and oranges, but also an explosion of spices. Nutmeg, cinnamon and a bit of pepper. Very nice. On the second sip, the mango and pipe tobacco return. Becomes slightly dry, without losing any of the fruitiness.

The finish is long and lingering. It becomes a bit drier still, but that does not bother in the least.

This is a grand Glenglassaugh, that slept on quality sherry casks. The sherry influence is unmistakable, but it is quite becoming for this whisky.
