The Glenmorangie Private Edition range continues with its eight release, Bacalta. This latest expression begins its life, as with most Glenmorangie, maturing in ex-bourbon casks before transferring for finishing in Madeira wine casks. The sweetest Madeira wine is Malmsey Madeira and it is casks that once held this rich, syrupy liquid that have been used for the second maturation period.
As such this is likely to be on the sweeter end of the Glenmorangie range and sounds delicious. The Glenmorangie official tasting notes mention sweet fruits, caramel, fudge and honey.
Fans of sweeter whiskies will know that the Glenmorangie spirit lends itself well to sweeter finishes with expression such as Nectar D’Or proving to be highly successful. We’re looking forward to the reviews of this one.
