The Glynnevan Double Barrelled Canadian Rye Whisky has been available in Ontario selected LCBO locations since August 2017, price C$48.75.
When using the colour guide from my One More Dram Whisky Journal, I get the colour of the whisky in my Glencairn as burnished to tawny orange.
On the nose, I detect sweet rye bread, honey & oak. Some vanilla, but it is faint.
The palate is sweet, spicy (nutmeg), with toffee/caramel. On the swallow, it is a little bitter. I find the whisky creamy/oily on the tongue, astringent at first, then my mouth waters.
Finish - medium.
ABV is 43%. This is a blended Canadian whisky, and while called a "rye whisky" it is not a 100% rye whisky. I believe it has a high rye content, but no details on what grains the blended whisky consists is available from the Glynnevan web site. The whiskies are sourced from the West - prairie grains distilled then aged at Guysborough, Nova Scotia.
For me, this was an okay sipping whisky. Would use it in cocktails, though. I'll probably make a batch of Boulevardier to age in my 1L oak cask for a few weeks.
Ya, I picked up a bottle a few years ago in NS and although not bad I would not replace it. May have my sister mule me the 12 year version from NS or even the triple cask.
