This Czech market leader in spirits such as vodka, liqueur and brandy took over production of this Gold Cock (what’s in a name) whisky from the gone-broke- Likerka Dolany distillery in 2007. The ‘Black Feathers’ 6 Year Old single malt disappeared, to be replaced by a 3 Year Old Blend ‘Red Feathers’ and this 12 Year Old single malt ‘Green Feathers’. According to the official website, this single malt would be appreciated for its firm core and strong aroma of peat. I can hardly wait (add sarcasm, please).
While a little less oily than his younger, blended, brother, this one has the exact same nose, plum liqueur, with a touch of orange/tangerine. And, lo and behold, a whiff of peat! Hold your horses, it’s only a whiff. A pinprick. And that’s all this Czech has to offer, I’m afraid.
Oh, my god, what a terrible little drink. Should I swallow this? Just like the Red Feathers blend, this Green Feathers is completely unworthy of the name whisky. Fruit syrup, but dry, musty and stale. Yikes!
The finish is mercifully short, but still too long to my taste. Okay, this makes it official. This is the worst whisky I’ve ever tried (sorry, Dad, I do appreciate the gift). And I got a whole 70cl bottle. Oh, well, I guess I can still use it to clean the windows. As for the title, that’s Latin for ‘More Czech Cruelty’ (referring to the blend I tried earlier). Stay away!
So do people walk into bars and say, "I'll have a large Gold Cock please"?
Sorry! I know its a bit obvious but I couldn't resist...
