Highland Park 18 Year Old Viking Pride

When we were invited to the tasting room after our as-good-as-private tour at Highland Park distillery, this Highland Park was one of the malts we were given. Oh, yes, this nose is nothing short of brilliant. Slightly floral with apples and pears, a nice drop of honey and a very soft, almost delicate smokiness. I almost dare to call it sexy! The body is good. The taste is very good! White and yellow fruit with beautiful influences of sherry. Think nutmeg, apricot pie and dried fruit. The peat is unmistakable and creates a beautiful smoke development that is perfectly in line with the nose. The spiciness starts violently, but once the malt has settled on your tongue, it calms down again. Very pleasant. The finish is rather short, but with a pleasant spiciness and yellow fruit with a floral touch. This is completely worth its price tag of about 125 EUR.
