How do you drink yours?

Now no one can tell you how to drink your whisky, but we all enjoy our dram in our own way. I like mine with a teaspoon of natural water which I then let breathe in the glass for 15 minutes or so (apart from laphroaig which I prefer neat.)

How do you enjoy your favourite dram?

I prefer to drink mine neat. However it can take me an hour or two to finish just a single dram as I try to pull out every flavor and smell from that lovely liquid. Occasionally I will try a dram with some water to see what if any changes occur. Sometimes with a bourbon I'll toss one or maybe two ice cubes in, but that's pretty darn rare. Almost unheard of, but I just did it the other night I'll mix my whisky with coke. But it has to be a very bad whisky such as my Canadian Club 12 yr old which is disgusting.

I'll admit that most of the time I add 2-3 filtered ice chips(not cubes) to my whiskys and just let them dissolve. Occasionally there are some times I will drink whisky neat. @SquidgyAsh LOL, CC and coke was my go to Rye whisky mix, I think I still have a mickey in my golf bag for those exceedingly rough games.

Most of the time neat, but I do try a few drops of water from time to time just to see if it makes a difference. I have found a few that are completely different.

I always have mine neat. Unless I want to play around with the flavor profile, or I forget to mention it to the bartender ; )

I typically have the first dram from a bottle neat and drink it slowly to savor every bit of flavor. After that, though, I generally add about half a teaspoon of water to each dram. Bourbon, I always drink neat, unless it is an inexpensive bourbon that I consider to be a mixer - Evan Williams Green comes to mind here. A single cube of ice adds a great deal of texture and flavor to this whiskey. In summer, here in New Orleans, though, it can be difficult not to fill a glass with cubes and fill in the gaps between the cubes with some Jack Daniels or Evan Williams. Makes a lovely lingering drink for those humid evenings.

It totally depends on the whisky and situation for me - I have no standard way of drinking other than making sure most of the glass goes into my mouth.

If I'm trying a whisky for the first time then I will almost always try it neat and then with water. The only time I don't do that is if it's a small sample or if there's no chance of me ever getting any more, in which case I only add water if I think it really needs it.

After an initial taste it just depends on how the world is going. With American whiskies I'll often make Old Fashioneds or drink them with a few cubes of ice; with Scotch I sometimes drink it like cordial - Caol Ila Moch mixed down with a good slug of tap water is excellent; with massive cask strength whiskies I often just drink them neat...

The best thing is to experiment. Unless it's a one of a kind, never to be repeated whisky tasting experience, at which point I generally just get on and drink it.

@Mountrain - 'a teaspoon of natural water', as opposed to unnatural water? :)
