Increasing the "Likes!"

I wanted to look for ideas about how the site's new "Like" function can get used more often. What do you think?

I was happy to see that @Pierre_W achieved a recent record, of 7 Likes, for his review of Longrow 18. But I think the Connosr is community well suited for using this more. I made a little experiment and re-posted my recent review (3 likes) on another site, where it swiftly got 32 likes. I have no doubt Connosr can also see a 10x boost and more! relaxed Ideas?

Hey @vanPelt, thanks for starting this discussion, it segways nicely into something that I was planning to post about.

I think the short answer is: to increase "likes" on Connosr we need to reach a wider audience and encourage more participation.

Before I touch on how we might go about this, I should clarify the development phases around the launch:

  • We "soft-launched" with the minimum viable version of the site. In other words – we quietly released the update and haven't shouted about it yet while we iron out some of the creases.
  • Our focus for the current phase is to fix any immediate issues, observe how the new site is used, make iterative improvements and add any missing features which didn't make the cut for launch.
  • In early 2017 we'll start the next phase which includes Operation Refill (see what I did there?) where the aims are as follow:
  1. Announce the new site to the wider whisky world
  2. Promote Connosr to engage new members
  3. Reactivate lapsed members
  4. Increase our readership by sharing content on our own social media channels
  5. Add new features to build engagement and increase participation

Two things we are working on to build engagement:

  1. A regular "Connosr Digest" email sent to all subscribed members – essentially this would be an email newsletter promoting the top reviews, discussions, new features and 'who to follow'
  2. Email notifications sent when someone who you follow writes a new review e.g 'New reviews from Victor, VanPelt & Nozinan'

I'm sharing these details here because I feel that there is a lot of good will amongst the core usership and also a willingness to see the community grow and reach it's potential now that the new site features are available.

As always we'd welcome your thoughts and feedback.

I think those are all good ideas and that they surely will expand the number of users. I am however a bit allergic to the notion of ''likes''. I'll pass on that but otherwise I'm here to help!
