The new 18 Year Old from Jura matured on ex bourbon casks and was ‘enriched’ (at least according to the label) with red wine casks. That makes if quite different from the previous Jura 18, which was matured on oloroso, but has not been produced in more than a decade.
The nose is honey sweet with a sour tough. Some baby breath and red fruit, soft butter and buttermilk. Raisins, leather, a hint of heather. And you know what? It works! This is the kind of nose that makes me go ‘yes…no…’. But after more than 5 minutes of nosing this, I have to say, I like it a lot.
I would have loved a bit more body (this is just shy of being watery), but taste-wise this is very nice. Sweet and sour with red berries, lemons, blood oranges, a pinch of kitchen salt and some molded wood. The second sip offers some dark fruit like dades and raisins. Very nice indeed.
The finish is quite long and charming with its spiciness and dark fruit.
This is without a doubt my favorite of the new core range. I think 75 EUR is a fair price for this bottle.
