John Lint is a blended whisky, packed and marketed in Belgium by Konings, who started out in 1946 as a geneva distiller. They own the brand Smeets. Fruitjuices from Looza are also theirs, since they took over the stocks from PepsiCo. Apart from this whisky, they also bring Vodka Rossia and Dry Gin Lord Patrick to the market. Their John Lint is a three year old blend, costing less than 13 EUR. The John Lint I’ll be trying is a 12 Year Old, bottled on 6th August 1980 (so it’s a distillate from the late sixties). It’s darker than the current John Lint bottles on the market. My sample is a bit clouded too.
The nose is very, very closed. I have to put my nose deep into the glass to get anything at all. And what I get is not very inspiring. Wet cardboard, caramel and something chemical that reminds me of Wycam’s cough candy.
The attack is so watery that I think maybe something’s gone wrong with the sample. I don’t often frown when tasting, but this is just plain bad. A little caramel and a whole lot of toilet cleaner. Yikes!
You’ll forgive me for not being able to describe the finish. I didn’t stick around to find out and immediately rinsed my mouth with a big glass of water.
This whisky is also available in the Philippines. Probably totally useless information, but there isn’t much else to say about this despicable whisky.
Very interesting to read a review of a whisky that I will never likely come across. Your reviews, both for their quality and quantity, are very much appreciated by this whisky novice.
I wish Ontario would allow whisky to be shipped into the province so that I could purchase a bunch of samples to experience a range of good (and occasionally bad) whiskies. Then again, the credit card would likely not appreciate the workout! :)
