Nose: After it opens up, lovely oxidized sherry behind strawberry shortcake. Toffee and sandalwood, and a light herbal quality perhaps. Really nice, but a bit of a one note hit (even if it rich and deep). (with water) The fruit falls off a bit here. Caramel, toffee, oxidized sherry, and some dusty dry wood. Strawberry fruit hides in the background. This is really great quality, just not the most dynamic.
Palate: Thick, syrupy, and a little heat and chili at the front. Honey, chili, ginger, a few strawberries and lingonberries in a jam, and then some sharp and sour wood. (with water) More overt red fruit, but the wood is far bolder. It's both great wood, and a bit overmuch at turns, in a strange way (Two woods diverged in an amber glass..)
Finish: Soft wood, caramel, and a touch of fruit. Wood is the dominant characteristic. I like it, but it's a bit tough at points, and not the most complex. It's a high B.

Edit note: apparently, I tasted this before, and liked it more last time. Previously, it was in the middle of a tasting mix, though this time it was the lead. Perhaps last time it benefited from great company, and this time, when asked to take the lead, it just didn't have the muster. Or it could just be an odd night for my senses. Either way, I'd completely forgotten about tasting it before!
