- Brand: Kinahan’s
- ABV: 46%
Kinahan's whiskey was founded in 1779 by Daniel Kinahan, but the brand was lost long ago. With the boom in which the Irish whiskey market finds itself today, it should come as no surprise that the brand was revived. Since 2016 they have product on the market. I taste their Irish blend – batch 8 by the way – of this totally unknown brand.
On the nose it comes across to me as rather young and, if I may be very honest, boring. A little white fruit, a little oak, a little vanilla and a little cereal. Some malt sugars and quite a few notes of grain whiskey. Not exactly inspiring, I have to say.
Ouch. On the palate it is clearly a young animal and in addition to some apples I only get a cartload of violets. In addition to a considerable graininess (is that a word?) this is mainly perfumed. Just say shampoo. Oh my, this goes very wrong very quickly. Yikes!
The finish is mercilessly soapy. Quickly grab a glass of water.
Kinahan's disappears from my radar faster than it appeared on it. Not my cuppa. Thank you, again, Benny! Nice study object, but no more than that.
