Un-fresh

I find it quite hard to believe that I’ve only tried 3 Knockando so far and the last one was already six years ago. Anyway, I’m willing to give it another try with this old release from Knockando 1975 that was bottled in 1988 for the Italian market by Justerini & Brooks.
Quite alcoholic on overripe fruit. Think banana, mildly rotting oranges and a big vegetal note that makes it hard to please. Wilted flowers. No, I must say, this nose does not make me happy.
Oily on the palate, immediately sweet and sour on oranges and gooseberries, but with another big prickle of alcohol. Honey and orange marmalade dominate, while a candy-like edge takes my taste buds hostage. However, on the palate too it shows something very un-fresh.
Medium long, slightly bitter finish. Honey at the death.
Again, this older release fails to convince. Chances are it will be another six years before I try Knockando again. Pity.
