Went down to the Lark last night for another session, tried four different Lark expressions. The third was the LD90 Distillers Selection - bottled at 46% rather than the 43% they generally use.
The smell is interesting in that is both syrupy and gentle. Sweet, with caramel, spice and malt notes. When a few drops of water is added it expands to include floral and oak notes. Quite pleasant.
The taste is rich, full of oak, caramel, orange, pear and port notes. While very rich, it is surprisingly easy drinking.
The finish is an interesting hot spicy explosion that over a couple of minutes fades with wood and caramel notes.
It took me a couple of sips to get into this one, but I was quietly impressed. Not as punchy and interesting as the LD137, this is more in the vein of a really good every day malt.
