The Mobsters on Mopeds are back! After a delicious Blair Athol, a lovely Cambus grain and an outstanding Ardmore, they now return with a young Ledaig from the Tobermory distillery. You know that I love young Ledaig, so you can imagine I was happy with this one. It is a limited edition of only 50 bottles and bottle 50 of 50 founds its way into my collection. I will write these tastings notes from a complimentary sample. Thanks, Mobsters!
Yes, this is another lovely dirty nose just the way I like it. Wellington boots, smoked fish, horse’s stable, ashes and some plasticine. And… hang on… again that weird note of juniper berries, as if this came from a gin cask (if such a thing would exist). I had that before with the Ledaig 2007 in the Lads of Lobland series from the same club. Could it be a sister cask? Some white fruit and vanilla kick in, but buried under some wet rocks. Very, very nice.
Surprisingly sweet on the palate at first, but then the ashes explode. Sea salt and pepper precede the peat before a lovely trace of smoke develops. Apple juice and some grapefruit follow suit, but cannot compete with the salty character of this Ledaig.
When the salt and smoke slowly fade in the long finish, the sweetness in the guise of apples and vanilla come again to bid their goodbye.
Nicely heart-warming. Boy, this was already my 35th Ledaig. Or is that ‘only just’? You tell me. But one that will keep me warm all winter long. It is (was?) for sale for 83 EUR. Contact the Mobsters. Recommended.

A great little distillery to visit if you are ever in Tobermory on the beautiful Island of Mull.
