Ledaig, to be pronounced ‘let-shik’, is the peaty version of Tobermory. This pale liquied only matured for 7 years on a bourbon hogshead. So it is a young animal.
On the nose, which is very clean, I get quite some mineral elements. Wet stones on a rocky beach, sweet peat, zesty with grapefruit skins and some lemon. Cod oil and rubber garden hose, upholstered with some sweet honey in the background. The whole is very soft.
Despite the high ABV, it is perfectly quaffable without the addition of water. Yes, you get a fierce kick in the teeth at first, of course, but once you get past the burning sensation, you will get sweet peat again, sea salt and lemon.
Very straight, no frills, but very good. Pure.
The finish is more of the same and last quite long.
This one can be had in the Whiskybase shop for only 35 EUR?! Now that is a very friendly price!
