I never had the Laphroaig 15, but based on your description, maybe Longrow 10?
Have you tried mixing today's Laphroaig 10 & 18?
My last stab in the dark: Maybe a mix involving the contemporary Laphroaig of your choice and Old Pulteney 17?
I'm interested in everyone else's answers to this one.

Just wait a few months. Laphroaig is about to re-release the 15yo for their bicentennial (1815-2015). I am excited to see what else they come up with for this special occasion.

I too loved the drier less commercial 15y and mourned its loss. The 18y is fantastic, but it's closer to the highly conditioned 1/4 cask than the old 15y in my view. If you’re looking for something with that drier windswept effect Longrow is an option, but it’s a very different flavour profile. The 10 year old Laphroaig is probably the closest thing on the market to the old 15 but you won’t be satisfied with it.

I was reminiscing about my 2004 (or was it 2002?) bottle of Laphr'15, it was smoother and briney than the current 10, and just all around more interesting than either that or the current 18yo...
What comes close to it these days? Only thing I can think of is perhaps Port Askaig 19 ?
