Distribution of ratings for this:
- Brand: Old Heaven Hill
- ABV: 50%
Nose: A bit shy with corn and licorice predominating. Honeycomb and vanilla make an appearance in the background.
Palate: Demerara sugars make an immediate appearance followed by a rye spice buzz. A layer of maple syrup makes for a very nice mouth feel.
Finish: Medium length with the maple syrup and spices slowing dying out.
As this is bottled in bond, I am assuming that it is at least four years old; and as is evidenced by the vanilla, the wood does make some solid contributions. This whiskey is not easy to find, but is definitely worth seeking out. For the price of some pretty mediocre brands, one can add a bottle that rivals some of the premium bourbons.
