Chieftain’s Choice is a label from Ian MacLeod distillers. Another one, for example, is Dun Bheagan.. This bourbon hogshead #1520 was filled in 1982 and bottled in 2009 as a 27 Year Old. I will be putting sister cask #1521, also filled in 1982 and bottled two years previous as a 25 Year Old for Dun Bheagan.

Just like his Dun Bheagan brother, it has loads of vanilla on the nose, but here it is the citrus fruit that dominates. Fresh lime and some concentrated lemon drops, upholstered with the skins of Granny Smith appels. Some hay and wet rocks. The peat is quasi incognito.

This is more creamy than oily on the palate. Soft attack, no water needed. Nice continuation of the nose, with the peat taking care of a wonderful smokiness. Salty as well, but kept well under control. This one remains sweet.

The long, sweet finish brings a smile to my face.

This is a great, typical, bourbon matured Port Ellen, just the way I like it. Again, thanks, Chris!
