Murray McDavid is an independent bottler that often experiments with wine casks (their former link to Bruichladdich undoubtedly has something to do with that). Today I am trying a Rosebank from their Mission Gold series, 21 years old and matured solely on a bourbon cask.
The nose is typical Rosebank: creamy vanilla, loads of citrus, Granny Smith apples, a bit malty and floral. It also shows a nice hint of toasted oak and some pepper.
Creamy on the palate too. And fiery without becoming too spicy. Apples again, skin included, some rosewater and a hint of butterscotch. Add water? No need.
The finish is long on vanilla, white fruit and at last a pinch of chili peppers.
This is a textbook aperitif malt with class. Classic Rosebank never fails. Around 120 EUR but hard to find these days.
