The Whisky Agency bottled this Secret Speyside from 1993 (with which I have some good experience) with Heads & Tails from Canada. The sherry cask has given it a wonderful color.
Soft and layered nose on a stew of plums, raisins and dates sprinkled with chocolate shavings and moccha. Hazelnuts drenched in caramel. Sniffing tobacco and Werther’s Original. Café Latte, eucalyptus and nutmeg. Yummie!
Very soft on the palate, honey-sweet and syrupy. First comes that dark fruit stew, before the spices kick in: nutmeg, cloves, liquorice and a pinch of cinnamon. All very sweet, but with good balance. Liquid candy.
The finish is long, feisty on spices and heart warming, with a lovely bitterness at the death.
Another one of those little gems from the Edrington stables in which we have seen quite a few in the last months. But I gladly repeat myself: if they are this good, keep ‘m coming.
