Speyburn is a bit of an unknown distillery with a rather weak reputation. I have not got that much of experience with this Speysider. I have only tried two so far, this one included (but I did not write notes at the time). When I visited the distillery in 2010, I could not get in as it is not open to the public. Bradan Orach is Gaelic for golden salmon.

The nose is very malty and you can actually smell the yeast. It also has something bubblegummy, which reveals the fact that it is a vatting of young malts (probably younger than ten years). A hint of vanilla and pears. Peach? And then there is an aroma that I can only describe as sun tan oil. Not bad, but far from entertaining.

It is very light and rather sharp. Now I get apples and pears, but also loads of sugared nuts. Some banana. Quite spirity, I must say. And it is a little too dry to my taste. Midpalate it turns a tad bitter.

The finish is short, sweet and sour and sharp.

Not a very inspiring malt. Around 20 EUR, which is dirt cheap. But I would rather spend that on a nice blend.
