The 18 year old whisky from the Speyside Distillery, simply Spey 18, matured on fresh sherry casks and was bottled at a drinking strength of 46%. Only 1.500 bottles were launched. I am told it is very popular in Taiwan. Well, it is not like I ever go there.
Ha, that is more like it! Good nose on all kinds of fruit. A real salad of fresh fruit with some vanilla ice cream. Pineapple in its own juices. Kiwi and grapes. This is very pleasant.
The body is somewhat light, without being watery. More than okay. Again some fresh fruit salad, but sprinkled with spices like pepper and cloves and a pinch of saffron. Nicely sweet. Vanilla and a hint of chocolate pop up.
The finish is medium long on sweet fruit, toasted oak and spices.
This is the first Spey that I really, really like. Dessert whisky. Around 100 EUR, which I find a tad expensive for an 18 Year Old whisky.
